The Montgomery Ward tractor conversion kit was manufactured by the Peru plow works in Peru, Illinois and appeared in the Montgomery Ward catalogs in the early 1930s.
In order for the tractor wheels to turn the correct direction, it was necessary that the model 't' (rear end) be rotated 180 degrees so that the axle pinion gears would drive the wheel bull gears the proper direction. This puts the model 't' (rear end) in an upside down position. 'it works,' the (rear end) has been completely rebuilt.
The 9 tooth pinion gear to the 120 tooth bull gear ratio gives the tractor the torque needed to pull a heavy load such as a plow but, the model 't' ford automobile (rear end) was not designed to endure that much torque for a sustained period of time.
The 1925, 4 cylinder, 20 horsepower model't ford engine comes with a 6 volt starter motor and generator as original. The engine has been rebuilt and runs well. The radiator is a new replacement with a new water pump attached.
The engine number is 12636535 and is stamped on the engine block behind the water pump. The engine was manufactured on November 3, 1925.
The conversion kit is embossed with 'mw' making it a Montgomery ward product produced somewhere between 1931 and 1936.
The wheel cleats have been removed but not discarded. Rubber treads have been installed on the wheels for driving on pavement. The rubber treads can be removed and the cleats can be re-installed onto the tractor wheels as original. Front steel wheels and hubs are provided if they might be desired on the front of the tractor.
The plow and belly drawbar with brace are provided if desired to be installed onto the tractor.
